Results of Proposals from the WGUK Membership
In June a number of proposals were presented to the WGUK Board following consultation with the 2011 membership. All proposals were fully discussed and below are details of those which were successful and will take effect for the 2012 season.
The 2012 “Rule Book” will contain full details of exactly how the proposals will work but they are as follows:
Use of dry cell battery electrical items
Guard will be able to make use of items that are powered by normal dry cell batteries (maximum 9v and does not include mains powered or wet cell batteries i.e. car). There will be certain other conditions attached to this which will mainly relate to safety and the requirement for each unit to make a declaration at each contest.
Performance Order
The performance order at each contest will remain as a random draw as it was in the 2011 season. For the Cadet, Junior and Open Class Championships performances (excluding Junior and A Class Play Offs) units will perform in seeded order using the scores from their previous two contests. For Open Class Prelims the score from the Regional in February and the highest score in March will determine the seeded performance position. Junior & A Class Play Offs will be by random draw made directly after their Championships and the Open Class Championships will be determined by the scores from the Open Class Prelims. (To clarify - the only change to 2011 will be that Open Class Prelims will now be seeded, using scores from the Regional and the highest score in March, as opposed to being a random draw within blocks).
Championships Presentations
The announcing and presentation of each of the top 3 places in the Junior, A and Open Class will take place simultaneously to showcase the top Guards from these three classes with equal importance. As usual the Results ceremony at the end of the Championships event will include all the Open Class and the Top 3 in both Junior and A Class. The procedure will be that the Open Class Guards below 3rd place will be announced and then the 3rd Place in Junior Class will be announced followed by 3rd Place in A Class and then 3rd Place in Open Class. Next the 2nd Place in Junior Class will be announced followed by 2nd Place in A Class and then 2nd Place in Open Class which will then leave the Champions in Junior Class to be announced followed by the A Class Champions and then finally the Open Class Champions.
Setting Up Music
Units will be allowed to use music whilst setting up ready to perform and also as they leave the arena once their performance has finished. This will allow units to explore new avenues as they prepare to perform but will have certain conditions attached relating to timing and ensuring the overall time period is not exceeded and the need for a member of the units staff to oversee operations as the sound desk.
Further announcements regarding the forthcoming winter season will be made over the coming weeks.
